Orchestra PerformanceThe Marist College Orchestra

The purpose of the Orchestra is to provide a continuing musical performance experience for string players. The course will foster the growth of musicality through the rehearsal and performance of a wide range of music written or arranged for orchestra.

A little bit about the conductor:

Violinist, Teresa Tyce, joined the Marist College Music Department as an adjunct lecturer in 2012 and has since become the instructor of string instruments and the director of both the Marist College Orchestra and Chamber Strings.  She brought with her experiences from a variety of roles within the music industry.

A native of Kansas City, Kansas, Teresa moved to New York state in 1990 and began her music career at Educational Music Service (Chester, NY) where she worked in sales, selling sheet music to librarians of all the major orchestras across the United States.  Following 5 years in sales, Teresa spent two years teaching string students and general music classes at the elementary level in the Newburgh Enlarged Central School District.

From the beginning of her time in NY, Teresa has maintained a private studio and continues to be an active performer in the Hudson Valley.  She is currently a section second violinist with the Greater Newburgh Symphony and performs solo recitals annually.  Other performance experience includes the Crawford Quartet, the Warwick Valley Chamber Chorale and the Orange County Classic Choral Society.

Teresa holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree with an emphasis on violin performance from Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas and has completed post graduate studies in elementary education through Long Island University.  In 2006, she received the Black and Gold Volunteer Award (West Point, NY), a garrison-level award, for initiating and directing a string ensemble at the West Point Middle School.  Teresa is a member of the American String Teachers Association.
