Marist Fox P.A.W. By-Laws

Article I: Name of Organization: Marist Fox P.A.W.

Article II: Purpose of Organization

1. To promote awareness about animal cruelty.

2. To encourage students to be concerned with something outside themselves.

3. To enhance the level of community service and relations of Marist College students.

4. To provide hands-on experience by volunteering at animal shelters and farms where students can interact with the animals.   

5. To promote awareness of vegan and vegetarian lifestyles but to make it clear that it is not required or expected.

6. To stimulate discussions of current practices that harm animals and ways in which to improve the situation.  

7. To create a place where students concerned about animal welfare can come for ideas and support.

8. To build a bridge between Marist College and animal activist groups.

9. To create a channel of communication between students, faculty, and the community.

10. To show students the demands of raising Seeing Eye dogs in the hope that they will realize that it is a huge responsibility, but also see the experience as rewarding and fun.

Article III: Members

Section 1: Membership shall be open to all undergraduate students who have interest in animal welfare. No member shall be discriminated against.

Section 2: Membership shall be recognized through signature or by swiping their CWID card.

Section 3: To maintain membership, members must attend club meetings and participate in as many club activities as they can.  

Article IV: Officers

Section 1: Required officers and duties

1. President

a. The role of the president is to ensure shared decision making throughout the organization.

b. The president shall facilitate: scheduling of meetings, activities and functions, setting the agenda for meetings, and the opening of closing of meetings.

2. Vice President

a. The role of the vice president is to assist the president throughout the organization.

b. The vice president shall facilitate community service activities done during the regularly scheduled meetings.

c. In the event that the president cannot fulfill his/her obligations, the vice president will take over.

3. Secretary

a. The role of the secretary is to record minutes.

b. The secretary shall maintain the club e-mail.

c. The secretary shall work with the advisement of the president and vice president in club correspondence with Marist College and the surrounding community.

4. Treasurer

a. The role of the treasurer is to keep an accurate accounting of club finances.

b. The treasurer shall oversee responsibility for the financial board budget and SGA at Marist College.

5. Webmaster/ PR Representative

a. The role of the Webmaster is to update the Fox PAW website as frequently as possible.

b. The Webmaster will also work with the other board members to promote awareness for the club.

Article V: Meetings

Section 1: Meetings will be held once a month. Time and dates will be set with the consensus of the members, and it is usually the second Tuesday of the month depending on availability.

Section 2: In the event of a special meetings or the need to contact members, the club will send out an e-mail.

Article VI: Executive Board

Section 1: The executive board will be compromised of the officers and decisions will be made on a consensus basis. The executive board will facilitate the direction of the club.

Article VII: Committees

Section 1: Marist Fox P.A.W. reserves the right to create a committee if it is necessary.

Article VIII: Amendment of By-Laws

Section 1: These by-laws may be amended by a majority vote of members provided that a quorum is present. If such amendments are passed by the majority, it then must be presented to the Student Government Association for final approval.

Article IX: Policies and Actions

Section 1: The club and any individual associated with said clubs, shall abide and conform to all Federal Laws, New York State Laws, all rules and regulations of Marist College, and all directives of Marist College, and all directives of the Student Government Association. Any violation of the aforementioned criteria may result in the disciplinary actions taken on the club charter.

Section 2: Any form of hazing prohibited. If hazing occurs, the club will face the penalties brought forth by Marist College and the Student Government Association.

* The second point depends on community service. This most often included attending our trips, volunteering, or attending specific events. We will inform you of these each semester!
