Our Senate Speaker for the 2008-2009 term is Matthew Lubrano.
The Marist College Senate serves as the student population’s outlet to voice their concerns to administration. Consisting of the 4 class presidents, 5 resident senators, as well as 2 commuter senators, elected by you the students, the Senate is a gateway to improve your college experience. Every member of this branch of Student Government is more than qualified to meet your needs. We all come from different backgrounds and all have had different experiences at Marist. The 11 of us all contribute to make Marist College a better place to learn.
The Marist Senate works very similarly to the way the United States Senate does. We draft legislation to improve the college in the form of bills and vote on them. We then pass the bills along to the Student Body President where he can either sign them or veto them.
The Speaker of the Marist College Senate serves as the head of the Legislative Branch of the Association. As Speaker, I chair all Senate meetings, and also hold weekly meetings with President Zeyher and the Chief Justice Shayne Temple, to discuss what the other branches are doing. I also serve as spokesman for the Senate.
Born and raised on Long Island, I came to Marist in the Fall of ’07. I am an accounting major thinking about declaring a minor in political science. At Marist, in addition to Student Government, I am a proud member of the Alpha Phi Delta fraternity, the Catholic Student’s Association, Men’s Group, Campus Ministry, and Resident Student Council. I truly believe that getting involved in so many different aspects of Marist has contributed to my love of college. When not doing clubs and organizations, you can find me at Applebees eating boneless wings or at home watching the Mets. Baseball is my first pastime and I truly love the game. I also love hanging out with my friends and just being myself.
If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns about the Marist College Senate, please don’t hesitate to contact me at Matthew.Lubrano1@marist.edu, or by phone ext 2206. Remember, the members of Student Government are here for you. The only way we can better serve your needs is by hearing them from you.
