Teachers of Tomorrow By-Laws

Article I: Name of Organization: Teachers of Tomorrow

Article II: Purpose of Organization

1. To strengthen current and future teacher interactions.

2. To encourage unity among students and faculty.

3. To enhance the level of community service and relations of Marist College students.

4. To provide hands-on experience.

5. To strive to increase the quality of field experience.

6. To stimulate discussions of current research based practices.

7. To create a place where education students can come for ideas and support

8. To build a bridge between Marist College and student-age students.

9. To create a channel of communication between students, faculty, and the community.

10. To strengthen the Marist College Education Department.

Article III: Members

Section 1: Membership shall be open to all undergraduate students who have the intent of working with school-age students. No member shall be discriminated against.

Section 2: Membership shall be recognized through signature.

Section 3: To maintain membership, members must attend club meetings and participate in club activities. Each member must participate in at least two club activities. Members are permitted to miss one meeting. If a member misses two meetings, he/she must participate in three club activities to maintain membership.

Section 4: If a member does not uphold the membership agreement, he/she will no longer appear on the club roster

Article IV: Officers

Section 1: Required officers and duties

1. President

a. The role of the president is to ensure shared decision making throughout the organization.

b. The president shall facilitate: scheduling of meetings, activities and functions, setting the agenda for meetings, and the opening of closing of meetings.

2. Vice President

a. The role of the vice president is to assist the president throughout the organization.

b. The vice president shall facilitate community service activities done during the regularly scheduled meetings.

c. In the event that the president cannot fulfill his/her obligations, the vice president will take over.

3. Secretary

a. The role of the secretary is to record minutes.

b. The secretary shall maintain the club e-mail.

c. The secretary shall work with the advisement of the president and vice president in club correspondence with Marist College and the surrounding community.

4. Treasurer

a. The role of the treasurer is to keep an accurate accounting of club finances.

b. The treasurer shall oversee responsibility for the financial board budget and SGA at Marist College.

Article V: Elections

Section 1: Methods of Elections: All positions will be open to all members through an election process. Nominations for officer positions will be made during the spring semester. Those who accept candidacy will be places on the ballot and asked to give a short speech at the next meeting. Elections will take place in March by private ballot. Elections will be decided by a majority vote.

Section 2: Length of Term: Each position will be held for one academic year. There will be a transition period ending at the last meeting of the school year when responsibility will be given fully to the new officers. A member may only serve in that capacity for one term in order to ensure participation by all members. Officers do have the right to terminate their positions and have a new election process at the end of the Fall semester if agreed upon by the board and two thirds of the membership.

Article IV: Meetings

Section 1: Meetings will be held twice a month. Time and dates will be set with the consensus of the members.

Section 2: In the event of a special meetings or the need to contact members, the club will send out an e-mail.

Section 3: Two thirds of the club’s membership must be present to constitute a quorum.

Article VII: Executive Board

Section 1: The executive board will be compromised of the officers and decisions will be made on a consensus basis. The executive board will facilitate the direction of the club.

Article VIII: Committees

Section 1: Teachers of Tomorrow reserves the right to create a committee if it is necessary.

Article IX: Parliamentary Procedures

Section 1: Unless suspended, all meetings will be run according to Robert’s Rules of Order.

Article X: Amendment of By-Laws

Section 1: These by-laws may be amended by a majority vote of members provided that a quorum is present. If such amendments are passed by the majority, it then must be presented to the Student Government Association for final approval.

Article XI: Policies and Actions

Section 1: The club and any individual associated with said clubs, shall abide and conform to all Federal Laws, New York State Laws, all rules and regulations of Marist College, and all directives of Marist College, and all directives of the Student Governmen Association. Any violation of the aforementioned criteria may result in the disciplinary actions taken on the club charter.

Section 2: Any form of hazing prohibited. If hazing occurs, the club will face the penalties brought forth by Marist College and the Student Government Association.
